The Hax-Beach House
417 S. 11th
This home, originally a duplex, was built by George Hax in 1887 as rental property before building his grand mansion next door. In 1895 the house was purchased by Deputy Sheri' Frank Beach, who remodeled the home by adding the Queen Anne detailing to the front porch. The two oriel windows, front porch and quatre-foil windows and motifs in the front porch are typical of the Queen Anne Style, which became popular in America in the 1880s replacing the Second Empire style seen in the Hax Mansion next door.
Turn to your left and go back to Sylvanie Street. Turn left on Sylvanie and walk down to 9th Street to find the Moss Castle.
